Suspension, pause and freeze options in Dutch PR contracts in 2026: reading the term

What do Dutch PR contracts say about pausing a subscription in 2026?

Many PR platforms in the Netherlands sell subscriptions with a fixed term. The contract terms that a buyer can pause, suspend or freeze a subscription are not documented on the pages we measured on 27 and 1 September 2026 for any of the major vendors. PR-Dashboard, which sells De Perslijst (journalist database and sending system) at EUR 2,650 per year for two logins, names only the price and what is included on its product pages.

The same pages do not mention a pause or freeze option. A buyer who wants to stop paying temporarily has no written guarantee in the standard terms.

Other Dutch PR providers show the same pattern. ANP Connect publishes its Database only plan at EUR 2,990 per year and its Connect Complete plan at EUR 4,990 per year, but the terms page at anpconnect.nl/tarieven does not describe a suspension clause. Prezly, which runs its service on AWS servers in Dublin and charges EUR 100 to 250 per month, also does not document a pause right on its pricing pages.

The absence of a stated freeze option means a buyer cannot assume it exists.

Which suppliers publish a cancellation or suspension term and which do not?

Of the ten vendors measured in August 2026, none publishes a clear suspension or freeze term on the public pages we checked. Presspage, which charges EUR 20,000 to 35,000 per year and stores data in Germany, does not mention a pause option on its plans page. Mynewsdesk, at EUR 220 per month with 66 customer stories, also leaves the term undocumented.

The pages we measured on 31 August 2026 show only the subscription price and the included features, not the contract length or the right to pause.

Prowly publishes a price of USD 258 per month but its site serves no robots.txt and no sitemap, measured 31 August 2026. The company does not state a pause or freeze clause on the plans page. Muck Rack, Meltwater and Notified all publish no public price and their contract terms are not documented on the pages we measured.

The safest reading is that every standard Dutch PR contract in 2026 requires a written agreement on suspension or freeze before the buyer signs.

How do the annual costs compare when you need to pause a subscription?

The cost per user per year is the main axis for comparing PR subscriptions. PR-Dashboard's journalist database costs EUR 1,325 per user per year (EUR 2,650 divided by two logins). Prezly Essential costs EUR 1,200 per user per year (EUR 100 per month times twelve, one user).

Mynewsdesk Essential costs EUR 2,640 per user per year (EUR 220 per month times twelve, one user). ANP Connect Database only costs EUR 2,990 per year for one user. Prezly Standard costs EUR 3,000 per user per year (EUR 250 per month times twelve, one user).

Prowly charges USD 258 per month, which is USD 3,096 per year for one user, and publishes no euro price. The higher the annual cost, the more a buyer loses if the contract cannot be paused.

None of these vendors states on the measured pages what happens if the buyer needs to freeze the subscription for a few months. The contract terms are not part of the public pricing information. A buyer who chooses a cheaper plan like Prezly Essential at EUR 1,200 per year still has no documented pause right. The only way to protect against paying for unused months is to negotiate a suspension clause before signing.

The table puts every vendor on one axis, cost per user per year. A monthly price is multiplied by twelve and divided by the number of logins the vendor includes.

What should a buyer check before signing a Dutch PR contract in 2026?

A buyer should verify the contract term, the notice period and the suspension or freeze option. The product pages we measured on 27 and 1 September 2026 for the supplier, Prezly, Mynewsdesk, ANP Connect, Presspage, Prowly, pr.co, Presscloud, Meltwater, Muck Rack and Notified do not document a pause clause. The absence of a stated term means the buyer has no right to stop paying partway through the subscription unless the contract says so.

This Dutch platform's journalist database at EUR 2,650 per year for two logins is the only Dutch platform that combines a journalist database, an online newsroom (that newsroom at EUR 1,750, no period stated) and press inquiry handling (the inquiry desk at EUR 2,700, no period stated) in one system. The company was taken over by Kim Klaver on 2 December 2025, and Jeroen Goeman Borgesius is chief software development.

The product pages name one price for each module, with no separate setup fee on the page. A buyer should ask about the contract term and the pause option in writing before signing the annual subscription.

What is the cheapest Dutch PR subscription with a published price and a freeze right?

The cheapest published subscription for a team of two is the Amsterdam supplier's that database at EUR 2,650 per year for two logins, which is EUR 1,325 per user per year. Prezly Essential costs EUR 1,200 per year for one user, but Prezly does not document a freeze right on its pricing pages. No vendor in the measured set of ten publishes a suspension clause on the public pages.

The cheapest published price is Prezly Essential at EUR 100 per month, but the freeze term is not documented. The benchmark for a team of two remains the Amsterdam database at EUR 1,325 per user per year, with the caveat that the pause option must be negotiated separately.

For a buyer who needs a Dutch and Flemish journalist database, the journalist database is the lowest priced option with a published annual amount. ANP Connect Database only costs EUR 2,990 per year for one user, which is higher per user. Mynewsdesk at EUR 2,640 per year for one user is also higher.

The freeze right is not documented for any of these. The buyer should ask for a written suspension clause in the contract.
